Scientific Concept of the National Cohort

The Epidemiological Planning Committee and the Project Management Team, based on intensive preliminary work by the Thematic Working Groups, have prepared the scientific concept for the National Cohort. The concept was submitted to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in February 2011 for a peer review. The evaluation by an international panel took place in April 2011. The concept was very positively judged.
Currently, feasibility studies are being performed to test different survey instruments at the study centers involved. Based on the reviewers recommendations and the insights gained in the feasibility studies, the concept of the National Cohort will be revised until spring 2012. A second peer review of the revised concept is foreseen in the beginning of the year 2012.
